“Uhuru Classic”: The First Marathon in an Elevated Road

Yesterday marked the first marathon of its kind in Africa, a marathon on an elevated road. The Nairobi City Marathon was flagged off by President Uhuru Kenyatta and it was the first time the 27KM expressway was used by foot.

“It’s a very proud moment not just for myself but I believe for Kenya, as we celebrate and cheer for all of you. Each one of you young and old who have participated in this first edition of the Nairobi City Marathon. I believe as Amina has said this is the beginning of putting Kenya and our great city of Nairobi on the national map as a destination for one of the greatest marathon globally.” President Kenyatta.

The winner of the main event the 42KM race, Brimin Misoi clocked in at 2:08:30 to win the men’s race. As Agnes Barsosio reigned supreme in the women’s race clocking in at 2:24:45. The podium finishes received different monetary packages. A different highlight of the day, President Uhuru received the First Lady at the finish line after she completed the 5KM race. Kenya the home of champions hosted other world-class champions in different sports activities this weekend.
