The End of an Era

When it comes to Tennis, the most recognizable and notable name that always shines is that of Serena Williams, a 23-time grand slam singles champion and one of the most decorated black female athletes. The World Champion will be blowing a kiss to her passion at the end of this cycle.

“I have never liked the word retirement. Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me,” Serena said.

Serena has accomplished a lot in life and has achieved numerous prestigious titles in the world of tennis. But the greatest title of all for her is being called a mother. After giving birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia in 2017.

One of her main reasons for hanging her boots; is for her to be able to grow her family. Posing it as a challenge that most men don’t have to compromise their passion for.

I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labour of expanding our family.”

This has not been an easy feat for her; “I hate that I have to be at this crossroads. I keep saying to myself, I wish it could be easy for me, but it’s not. I’m torn: I don’t want it to be over, but at the same time I’m ready for what’s next.”

Serena is in the process of “evolution” according to her and we wish her all the best in the next chapter of her life.
