Seeing Beyond The Disability

“About 15% of the world’s population lives with some form of disability, of whom 2-4% experience significant difficulties in functioning,” According to the World Health Organization. The phrase “disability is not inability” has been put to task in more than one way by the members of this community. The Kenya Deaflympics team is a clear testament to this as they reigned the kings and queens of the African continent in the just concluded 24th Summer Deaflympics where they brought back home 25 medals.

Steps2Walk Foundation which partners with various hospitals to offer surgical procedures to help individuals with deformed ankles and feet to walk again, says some forms of deformities that cause disability can be corrected. This time, the Foundation has teamed up with Metropolitan hospital to host a medical camp. The camp is set to both create awareness of some of the conditions that can be easily corrected as well as provide the service to both individuals with basic NHIF packages alongside those who cannot completely afford it.
