Blessed Assurance: Assurance of Guidance

Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall [a]direct your paths.
Global Positioning System or GPS as it is commonly known, has made it so easy for people to travel in places they have never been before without getting lost. With our mobile phones today, we can connect to google maps to key in our destination and as we drive along, we will be told when and where to make a turn until we get to our destination.
Well, long before the discovery of GPS, God had already provided us with a way to know which way to go in life and how to make godly decisions. Proverbs tells us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts. To trust means having a firm belief in the truth and ability of God, no matter what we see in the natural. No wonder we are told not to lean on our own understanding because our understanding is limited.
The God we believe in is all powerful and all knowing. He is the beginning and the end, meaning there is nothing that happens that he is not aware of. In all our ways we are to acknowledge him meaning we are to recognize his place in our lives, we are to put him first, we are to recognize that all we do we do in him meaning all we do we must put him and his ways first, no matter what the world thinks. When we do this, then we have the assurance that he will direct our path each time, every time.
Sometimes, even when we are using the GPS, we make a wrong turn, but that does not mean we get lost. No, the system can recalibrate itself and based on your new location, find a new route that will get you where you need to be. God does the same thing when we take a wrong turn in life and, recognizing what we have done, run to him. He shows us mercy and directs us in the way to go.
James 1:5 NKJV
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Not only does God guarantee us guidance when we trust him in all our ways, he also assures us that when we need wisdom all we need to do is ask and the God who gives liberally and without reproach it will be given to us!!
Reflections.
In what areas of your life do you find it difficult to trust in the Lord with all your heart? Why?
Has leaning on your own understanding ever got you to miss what God had for you? What happened?
