Devotion: Using your testimony to Evangelize

1 Peter 3:15 NKJV
15 But [a]sanctify [b]the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
Could it be that many believers do not engage in evangelism because they simply do not know how and no one has taught them? Thinking back to when I was a new believer, Evangelism was very confrontational. We would get into peoples faces and scare them about hell so that they could be born again.
Everyone who is born again has a testimony of what Christ has done in them. If you are born again, and you have no testimony, then what did Christ do in you? Many believers have not been taught how to package their testimony and how to use it as a tool to share the love of Christ.
Paul the great Apostle used his testimony twice to share the good news of the kingdom. First in Acts 22 when he was before a mob of people who were trying to kill him. Then in Acts 26, when he is brought before King Agrippa and Festus, he shares the story of his conversion again. It is then when King Agrippa says to Paul, “You almost persuade me to become a Christian.”
A powerful testimony has three segments as shared by Paul in Acts 26;
  • Life before conversion
  • Events that led to conversion
  • Life after conversion.
There must be a change in the life of an individual, once they get converted, as we see in the life of Paul the Apostle. The power in your testimony is that it is your personal story. It happened to you, and no one can refute it. Since it is personal, it is easy to share and it tells.
So, what’s your story and how often do you share it?
Reflections
  • How was your life before you got born again?
  • What are the events that led to your conversion?
  • What is one specific thing that has changed in your life since you got born again?
