Taskforce on education reforms gazetted

President William Ruto has appointed a taskforce to evaluate the competency-based curriculum in the country.
It will also recommend appropriate reforms to other sectors of Kenya’s education.
The appointment of the Working Party on Education Reform was made via a Kenya Gazette Notice on September 30, 2022.
According to the gazette notice, the 49-member Working Party chaired by Prof Raphael Munavu will among other things evaluate the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
“It will assess and recommend an appropriate structure to implement the CBC system as well as study all laws governing the basic education sub-sector,” the gazette notice stated.

It will also make recommendations for streamlining continuity in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and university education transition.

It is further set to review and recommend legislation to facilitate amalgamation of HELB, TVET and University Funding Boards with a view of harmonizing and merging all tertiary education funding entities.

It will subsist for six months and issue the President with a progress report every two months.
