Education in Samburu Has been Crippled by Hunger

“4 million people who are hungry that is my concern,” President William Ruto remarked in an interview earlier this month with the CNN. Across the Horn of Africa, more than 20.5 million people are facing a dire hunger crisis.

The rains recorded in the Samburu region are way below normal capacity, according to United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Which increased the walking distance of famine stricken households and animals in search of water.

Due to the persistent drought there has been a reduction of learners in Samburu. As the learners have to join their families in long distance travel in search of food and pasture. The Education stakeholders in the country are calling upon the government to intervene and provide solutions for the learners and families at large.

“In a world of staggering wealth, it is unacceptable that people are dying of hunger. We must take action now,” Inter-Agency Standing Committee (ISAC).The founder of Girl Pride International Sabrina Guo has decided to take immediate action.

She stepped in to assist the families. By raising funds through the initiative to provide food aid. Although the initiative focuses on empowering the girl child they were not discriminative during the distribution of foods.
