MPS endorse the motion to roll out the School Feeding Programme

The National Assembly yesterday, on the 25th of October, endorsed the motion for the roll out of the School Feeding Program in the country.

Speaking in favour of the motion Hon. John Kiarie, the Dagoretti South Member of Parliament stated, “School feeding is actually practically possible in any constituency in this country. And I said that being a MP from the only constituency in the Republic that has a comprehensive school feeding programme.”

Over 12,000 students are fed daily in Dagoretti South through the programme with the Member of Parliament attributing the success of the program to a localised central kitchen, where all meals are prepared and through a logistical distribution module put in place, all schools receive the meals at the same time.

While preceding over the voting on the motion, the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula said, “This house resolves that the Ministry of Education through the relevant state department develops a school feeding policy to cover basic education pupils and sustain the programme in order to ensure that children are maintained in schools for effective learning and to improve their wellbeing.”
