Exploring God’s Grace: Grace is a Gift

Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Grace is not something one can attain, there is nothing we can do to achieve it, just as the verse says, not even the best of works can qualify anyone for grace.
The Greek word for grace is “Charis” which means gift, benefit, favor or generosity. Salvation is not something we can attain, it is a gift that we receive. This aspect of Grace is one that many cannot wrap their heads around because we live in a world that rewards you for what you have done. This is the reason many are slaves to empty religion and religious activities of no value because they believe they have to do this and that to attain Gods favor and forgiveness.
Empty religion is man doing all he knows how to do trying to get to God but all that is futile because there is nothing within our capability as humans in a fallen state that we can do to attain holiness without which no one will see God. The children of Israel tried it in the old testament but they did not succeed.
Because God so desires a relationship with us, he has given his grace to us freely, all we have to do is embrace it by faith and that’s it, as Jesus said, “It is finished!”
His grace is the free gift of forgiveness, we can now walk in liberty, we can walk in freedom without the guilt of all the wrong we have done, we have been forgiven and we did not have to do anything to attain it.
Reflective Thoughts
From a human perspective, what is the greatest gift you have ever received something you thought you did not deserve? How did that make you feel?
Do you sometimes find yourself thinking that God does not love you anymore because you have not done this or that? How do you deal with those feelings?
Looking back at all the wrong things you have done, how does it make you feel to know that God has freely given you his grace and forgiveness?
