CS Magoha orders closure of Schools

The government has today ordered the immediate closure of all schools for one week from to allow for the August general elections.

In a statement, Education CS Prof.George Magoha said the schools will remain closed  for one week to ensure that preparations and conduct of the upcoming elections is carried out seamlessly.

“Schools and parents are advised to ensure that learners from all Basic Education Institutions proceed on their half-time break effective Tuesday, 2nd August 2022 and resume on Thursday 11th August,2022,” the statement read.

According to a gazette notice from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, almost 250 schools will be used as tallying centres. Most of the institutions are primary, secondary schools, universities and technical training institutes.
