Voter Advisory

The time is now, this is the time where we put faith to action by going a step further to cast your vote for your future and the country’s at large. All polling stations across the country have been open from 6 am and they will remain open till 5PM. Kindly ensure as you go to vote, you have your Identification Card (ID) or passport with you. This is a mandatory requirement for anyone who wishes to cast their vote.

The Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in an aim to create more clarity and efficiency have released a short code that voters can use to check their polling station and lane/stream. You can do so by visiting https://verify.iebc.or.ke or text your ID/ Passport number together with #your year of birth to 70000 e.g. 12345678#1234. This move is aimed to reduce confusion and time spent at each polling station.

After numerous voter awareness and public education forums. This is what you should expect during the voting process at the polling station today. Once your ID/Passport has been verified you will proceed to the voter identification and authentication using KIEMS kit. This is a counter checking bit ensuring “that the voter’s name is indeed in the voters’ register so that the voter can be eligible to vote.”

After this step, the Voter is issued with 6 stamped ballot papers. The ballot papers will be those of presidential, gubernatorial, senatorial, Members of Parliament, Woman Representatives, and Members of the County Assembly candidates. The voter then proceeds to cast the vote on the secret ballot. The voter is required to mark the ballot paper by using either a tick (✓) or a cross (✗) within the margins of the set box frame against the name and symbol of a voter’s candidate.

The voter is then required to fold each ballot and proceed to cast each of the six ballot papers provided for each position according to the colour of the papers. It is important to ensure you drop the correct vote at the correct ballot box. To avoid spoiling votes.

This marks the final step of the voting cycle where the voter proceeds to get the finger marked with indelible ink. Which is placed on the small finger on the left hand or the space between the index finger and the middle finger in case of nail polish. The voter is then advised to leave the polling station.

During this process we encourage you to be patient and maintain peace.
