MPs vetting team rejects Peninah Malonza as Tourism CS nominee

The parliamentary committee on appointments has recommended the rejection of Tourism Cabinet Secretary nominee Peninah Malonza.

Prior to her nomination, Malonza was the Deputy Governor in Makueni County.

The rejection is contained in a report tabled in the House on Tuesday afternoon by the leader of the Majority Kimani Ichung’wah.

The report recommends the approval for appointments of all the other nominees President William Ruto wants to appoint to his cabinet.

Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed told the House there is also a minority report rejecting the nomination of former Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and former Meru Senator Mithika Linturi to join the cabinet.

“I want to single out and pay attention to the minority report that rejects the appointment of Aisha Jumwa and Mithika Linturi. We have rejected three nominees in total,” Mohamed told the house.

The Members of Parliament will have time to debate on the report and vote on the recommendations before the final report is sent to President Ruto.

“Any strong views you have for either of the nominee, I urge you to observe parliamentary decorum and dignity and debate the motion and you will vote on it at the end of debate tomorrow (Wednesday),” Wetangula stated. “The power of your vote that matters more than the manner you address yourselves with rigorous voices.”
