Investigating Prayer: Prayer Content

Matthew 6:7-9
7 “And when you pray, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 So do not be like them [praying as they do]; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
9 “Pray, then, [b]in this way: ‘Our Father, who is in heaven, [c]Hallowed be Your name.
One of the issues that many Christians struggle with is the how of prayer. What do I say? Have been in a situation where you feel like you have really prayed to God and said so much that there is no more to say, only to look at the clock to realize you have prayed for less than five minutes? On the other hand, you hear of people who pray the whole night, and you wonder, what do they tell God?
I came across a simple acronym to guide us on the content of our prayers, and that acronym is ACTS.
The A stands for ADORATION. This is to express our deep love and respect for God. It is to show respect and worship to God All Mighty, recognizing that he is God and besides him there is no other.
The C stands for CONFESSION. We come to God in prayer to confess our sins and ask for forgiveness. He said that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us all our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The T stands for THANKSGIVING. We come to God in prayer to offer thanksgiving because we are grateful for all he has done. The Bible says enter his gates with thanksgiving and give him praise.
The S stands for SUPPLICATION. To make supplication is simply to make our requests known to God. The Bible says that when we pray we have the confidence that he hears us, and we know that if he hears us, then he will grant us our supplications.
We can add and F to this standing for FAITH. All our prayers must be made in faith because without faith it is impossible to please God, for those who come to him must believe that he is and that he rewards those who diligently seek him.
The more we practice prayer, the better we will become at it as it is said, the best way to know how to pray, is to pray.
