Devotion: How much emphasis is put on prayer at the church you fellowship?

Acts 2:42 NKJV And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

It is said that a church that does not pray is a dying church. One of the most evident things about the church in the book of Acts is that it was a praying church. Not only did they meet for teaching and fellowship, they regularly met for prayer as well.

Jesus said that his house shall be known as a house of prayer for all nations.

It is through prayer and worship that we fellowship with God our father, thus a church that does not pray is a church that is disconnected from God.

The sad reality is that in some churches today we put more emphasis on programs and strategies that we try to implement in our strength instead of prayer and seeking God. Remember, Jesus said that he will build his church and the gates of hell will not be able to prevail against it.

When a church teaches on how to pray and the importance of personal prayer, then congregational prayer is never an issue. Tying to get people who have no revelation and practice of prayer on a personal level to come together for joint prayer and worship will always be a struggle.

When the church in the book of Acts prayed, things happened. They were filled with the Holy Spirit, they were filled with boldness, the ground shook, prison doors were opened, the supernatural was manifested, God showed up.

Reflections

  • Do you have a personal revelation of the importance of prayer?
  • How mush emphasis is put on prayer at the church you fellowship?
  • Is prayer a first or last resort in your daily life?
