During a ceremony to commemorate the completion of the training of police officers in Tanga. Tanzania’s president Samia Suluhu,  was shocked to see officers with big bellies leading the March.

As I was inspecting the parade, I noticed that those leading the march were veteran officers and some of them had big bellies. We are not supposed to have officers with big bellies. They should come back here so that they can be lighter and effectively execute their duties.”

The Tanzania President has been at the forefront of police reforms in her country since her assumption of office in March 2021. The first female president of Tanzania and the East African community at large. Has been prioritized forming a strong police service; that will serve Tanzanians better.

The president has also recently appointed a new Inspector General of Police Camillus Wambura to effectively lead the service. Should the new Kenyan Government borrow this leaf from Tanzania and send “big bellied” officers back to Kiganjo Police Training College?
