Becoming An Excellent Church: Excelling in Love

2 Corinthians. 8:7 NIV
But since you excel in everything— in faith in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the LOVE we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
Designer clothes are known by their trademarks or designs. The trademarks make them very visible and identifiable.
Those who hold an office of a unique kind can be identified by their attire. You can know a doctor or a policeman or a judge by their attire.
God has sent forth something as irrefutable evidence that we are his children—an irrefutable test by which you can measure your own spiritual growth. In fact, so awesome is this trademark of God that He said it would be the major declaration of your faith. Jesus put it this way. He said,
John 13:35
“By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, that you love one another.”
Love is the central theme that holds everything together in the Christian faith. God is love, and it is because of that love that we have been redeemed. Love is so central that Jesus commanded his followers to love one another not in any way they wish to define love, but in the same manner that he loved them.
When a church excels in love, you will not need to be told that it does because it will be so evident in what they do, how they do it and how they treat one another.
The bible says that you cannot claim to love God who you cannot see and yet, you hate your brother whom you can see.
According to 1 Corinthians chapter 13, to excel in love means
To be patient with one another, it means to be kind to others around you. To excel in love means not boasting and being filled with pride, but rather walking in humility and considering others as better than self. To excel in love means honoring others always and not only thinking about yourself but being genuinely concerned with the welfare of others around you.
To excel in love is not to get easily angered and not keeping a record of the wrongs others have done against you. When you are excelling in love, you do not delight in evil, but you are always rejoicing in truth.
You always protect, you always trust, you always hope and always persevere.
Now that’s a tall order that no human being can accomplish, and that is why the Holy Spirit is there to help us.
