The wait is almost over for students who just a couple of weeks ago, sat their KCPE examinations. Whilst anxiety fills the air for most of them alongside their parents, CS for Education Prof. Magoha says the wait is almost over, in a press briefing he said “We can more less work with Monday or Tuesday according to His Excellency the President’s diary.”
Reports say that there were minimal irregularities and that the stipulated time frame for the release of results is within schedule. The nature of marking as compared to the past tedious manual marking, teachers now use the Optimal Mark Recognition, which grades multiple-choice papers electronically.
This year’s student registration was also slightly higher than in 2020 before the pandemic that equally affected the education sector, like every other sector. The concern at the moment is the 100% placement of the 1.2m students who sat for KCPE in secondary schools nationwide.
CS Magoha also noted that two teachers from Marsabit and Turkana were caught facilitating cheating by circulating exam papers and answer sheets, saying “The fate of these two teachers is sealed.”
We wish all the KCPE students peace as they await their results.
