All set for the Nairobi Gubernatorial debate

9 candidates to face off Tonight (Monday) at the Catholic University for Eastern Africa (CUEA)

All is set for the Nairobi Gubernatorial debate to be held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa main campus in Karen, Nairobi, from 5pm today.

The debate organized jointly by the Media Owners of Kenya (MoA), Media Council of Kenya (MCK) and the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) will have all the 9 candidates taking part in the Nairobi gubernatorial race. The candidates includes; Johnson Sakaja (UDA), Polycarp Igathe (Jubilee party), Kenneth Nyamwamu (UPA), Independent candidates Esther Thairu and Agnes Kagure, Denis Kodhe (LDP), Nancy Mwadime (Usawa Kwa Wote) and Safina’s Herman Grewal.

The Nairobi Gubernatorial Debate will be in two tiers.  The first tier will feature gubernatorial candidates whose popularity ratings, based on three recent opinion polls, stand below 5pc, while the second tier will involve candidates who have polled above 5pc in the same opinion surveys.

The Nairobi gubernatorial debate will be followed by a debate for presidential running mates which will be held on July 19, followed by the main Presidential Debate on July 26 ahead of the August 9 election.

The residents of Nairobi County have an opportunity to send their questions on video to the WhatsApp number 0796 560 560. The questions will be answered today during the live broadcast.

The organisers have committed to delivering a debate founded on the principles of fairness, integrity, independence and accountability.
