The Minimum wage to rise by 23%, Says COTU

The world marks a special day every 1st of May. An international day meant to celebrate the workforce in every country. The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K), in preparations for the 57th Labour Day celebration this past weekend held a preparatory meeting.

The Secretary-General, Francis Atwoli speaking to a local station gave light to some of the things they want to highlight to aid the plight of workers. “Now we have demanded the basic minimum wage to go up by 23%,” this announcement already sparked joy in the hearts of minimum wage employees. But the question of stability is yet to be tackled. Is our economy stable enough from the effects of COVID to support this new “suggestion”?
