2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV
7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.
A friend once shared how he met an old friend in town and as they were talking, the friend pointed at a signpost that was quite a distance from where they were standing. My friend was shocked that someone could see that far and his friend suggested that he needed to have his eyes checked. He later told me that when he walked out of the optician’s office with his new pair of glasses, he saw a whole new world like he had never seen before.
We must all have a similar experience once we get born again for then we are called to walk by faith and not by sight. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. This faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. To make it simple, it is believing what the word of God says and aligning our actions to it as James says that faith without works is dead.
When we neglect our relationship with God, we slowly start drifting away and soon enough we no longer live by faith because we no longer hear his voice and slowly we conform to the patterns of this world. We begin to live life based on earthly wisdom which may look great but the Bible tells us that earthly wisdom is foolishness before God. There is a way that seems right to man the bible says but the end thereof is death.
If we are no longer reading the Word and can hardly remember what was preached on Sunday morning, then there is no way we can walk by faith.
2 Corinthians 4:18 NKJV
18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
To walk by faith is to be concerned about our Father’s business it is to be focused on eternal things and not the physical temporal things that many are chasing after. It is a journey of trusting God and walking in obedience even when you do not see where he is leading you just like Abraham.
In other words, to walk by faith and not by sight is to see the world through God’s eyes and not your own.
This is our prayer this week;
Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Reflections
What are some ways you are walking by sight and not by faith?
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God; How often do you read the word of God and how often do you practice what you have read?
God called Abraham to go to a land that He would show him; In what area of your life is God calling you, and what is He calling you to do? Will you obey?
