Checkup Spiritual Checkup: Reflex and Sensitivity

Acts 13:22 NKJV
And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’
One of the areas the doctors examine when you go for a medical check up is your sensitivity and reflex. With their small hammer like instrument, they will hit a joint here and there to see how sensitive you are and how your muscles react to the knock.
When we translate this to our spiritual life, then we ask ourselves several questions. How sensitive am I to the word of God and his voice in my life? How quick am I to respond to his words? Are my reflexes good?
The difference between David and Saul is that David was a man after God’s heart. David always inquired of God and his heart was to please God and not necessarily the people. Saul, on the other hand, cared more about pleasing the people, he was more concerned about looking good in the eyes of the people.
Remember when the prophet told David that he was that man who had sinned against God? David’s response was immediate. His reflex and response to this word were swift and though he was the king, he cared not what the people would think about him, he fell on his face and cried out to God for mercy.
Does the word of God convict you in the areas of your life where you are found wanting, or have you lost your sensitivity? The bible says that in these last days many will no longer be sensitive to God’s word, and they will have itching ears, amassing for themselves preachers who will tell them what they want to hear. Could you and I be already there, and we don’t even know it? Jesus said that his sheep know his voice he knows them and they follow him.
How quick do you respond to the word of God? The bible says that to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams” (1 Sam. 15:22).
This is our prayer this week;
Psalm 139:23-23
23 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Reflections
Does God speak to you? How sensitive are you to hearing his voice?
What is the last instruction God gave you?
What have you done about it?
