Spiritual Checkup: Prescription for Spiritual Health

Acts 2:42 NKJV
42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ [a]doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
Whenever you go for a medical checkup, after the doctor is done, he or she will have a sit down with you to tell you what they have found out. They will take time to guide you on what to do to be healthy. They may even give you a prescription for medicine or supplements you need to take, and they may recommend foods you need to eat more of or do away with completely, and also some exercise.
The best prescription for you to live a spiritually healthy life can be found in Acts 2:42. This is what the New Testament church did when it was birthed, and the Bible says that the Lord added to their number those who were born again daily.
So what did they do?
First and most important, they availed themselves to be taught the Apostle’s doctrine. Not only were they taught, but they continued to be taught, and they continued to practice what they had been taught. For us to stay spiritually healthy, we must be available to be taught and do what we are taught. We must also grow to eventually teach others the word of God. We must be students of the word if we are to remain spiritually healthy.
The early believers were also steadfast in fellowship. They met daily, and through the fellowship they were strengthened as they did life together. It was through fellowship that they were able to share what they had until they got to a place where none among them was in need.
They also broke bread together, meaning they share holy communion, always reminding each other of the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and also that he will come back again.
Prayer was also a very evident part of their lifestyle, and they were devoted to it.
These four things look simple, but when done consistently and from a heart that is hungry after God, will ensure that we remain healthy spiritually.
This is our prayer this week;
Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Reflections:
How are you continuing in the Apostle’s Doctrine?
Are you part of a fellowship? What value do you add to that fellowship?
When was the last time you broke bread with other believers?
How is your prayer life?
