Devotion: Have you ever compromised your faith because you doubted God’s ability to protect you?

Psalm 5:11 (AMP)

11 But let all who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice, Let them ever sing for joy; Because You cover and shelter them, Let those who love Your name be joyful and exult in You.

God is well able to protect His people, and there are various stories in the bible that prove that. One of my personal favorites is the story of Daniel in the Lion’s den. That story has fascinated me from when I was young, and it still does today.

Can you imagine what a lion can do to a human? I remember watching a movie about the man eater lions of the Tsavo and how they terrorized the men who built the railway. The lions would tear the men into pieces like they were pieces of paper.

Now imagine being thrown into a den of hungry lions. That is what Daniel had to go through simply because he would not change his lifestyle of prayer.

I love the question that the king asked Daniel the next day;

Daniel 6:20

The king said to Daniel, “O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you constantly serve, been able to rescue you from the lions?”

God is able to protect His people no matter the kind of situation they find themselves in. Trust Him and walk in obedience. He will not let you down, take refuge in Him.

REFLECTIONS

  1. What are you afraid of?
  2. Have you ever had to compromise on your faith because you doubted that God was able to protect you? What was the situation?
  3. Read Psalms 91 slowly, what are some key reassurances you can pick from this Psalm about God’s protection?
