Colossians 2:8 NKJV
8 Beware lest anyone [a]cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.
Have you heard of subjective decision-making? This is where you make decisions based on your emotions and desires, wholly apart from God. This best describes the “If it feels good, do it” philosophy that many have adopted in their life. When we allow our minds to be programmed by the philosophies of this world, the outcome then becomes a life filled with ungodly decisions.
The mind is the centre from which we make decisions, but that mind has to be programmed by either the light of God or the darkness and lies of the enemy. Whatever information we receive or expose ourselves to then determines how we think and what we do.
God asked Joshua to meditate on the Book of the Law day and night, meaning he was to deeply think about what was written in the book all the time. This then would affect how he made his day-to-day decisions, leading to a successful life of prosperity.
The world will tell us to follow our desires or our heart, but the word of God tell us that the heart of man is exceedingly wicked, and thus we are to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding. This can only happen when we allow God to be the central and most important figure in our life. When self takes the seat of our heart, then one thing is for sure, we are headed for a wreck.
When one relies on the flesh and its desires or our emotions to make decisions, they will most certainly be ungodly.
The key question then should be, who has taken the central seat in our hearts because remember, whoever get to program the computer gets to direct our lives.
