Romans 6:23 NKJV
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Sin has wages, and those wages must be paid. The bible tells us that the wages of sin is death, but we have billions of people walking the face of the earth living in sin yet oblivious of this truth. Others know this, but they have chosen not to believe it, and so they continue in their sinful ways.
God has power over death, and not just the eternal death but also the temporary death when our bodies shut down.
One of the most amazing stories in the bible is the story of Lazarus. He gets sick and his sisters send word for Jesus to come, but he does not. Lazarus dies, and he is buried and Jesus comes 4 days after he is buried.
Jesus prays and calls Lazarus forth, and he comes back to life, showing everyone that Jesus has power over death.
This is not the only person that Jesus raised from the dead. There was the widow’s son and also Jairus daughter. But these people still died because they are not alive today.
The most important thing we must recognize is that there is a second death, and anyone who goes through that is doomed for eternity.
Revelation 21:8 NKJV
But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
There is no comeback from the second death, but we don’t have to get there because God has provided a way out. Yes, the wages of sin is death, but God has given us a gift which is eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.
John 3:16 NKJV
For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Reflections.
Have you accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour over your life?
If you were charged with being a Christian, would there be enough evidence in your life to convict you?
If you are not born again, are you willing to be born again today?
Romans 10:9-10 NKJV
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
