Fortify your Faith: Faith and Hearing

Hebrews 11:8 NKJV
By faith, Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
Before Abraham ever walked in obedience, he heard the voice of God and understood what God said. We cannot fortify our faith if we are dull of hearing.
Romans 10:17 NKJV
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Deaf people cannot fortify their faith. That’s a pretty strong statement to make. I am not talking about physical deafness but rather, spiritual deafness. I believe God created every human being with the capacity to hear him otherwise if that is not the case, then he would be unjust to judge us for not hearing his voice.
The Bible says that without faith it is impossible to please God. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
Once we hear, we have the choice to believe or not to believe. It is in the hearing and believing that our faith is activated.
The greatest sin is not murder or fornication, the greatest sin is unbelief. Unbelief cannot manifest if you have not heard. You must hear first before you decide to believe or not, so unbelief can only manifest once you hear and then reject what you have heard. Unbelief paralyses the power of God in your life. Jesus was unable to do much in Nazareth because of their unbelief.
Unlike in the days of old, we have the written word of God readily available today. In this generation, we even have it on our phones, in hotel rooms, at the supermarket, it is even one of the textbooks required in secondary school if you profess to be a Christian.
The bible says in the book of Hebrews that in these last days God has spoken to us through his son. Jesus according to the book of John is also the word of God. As one preacher put it, “God has hidden himself in a book called the bible, and only those who are faithful and diligent enough to read and meditate on his word will have the experience of walking with him!”
Abraham experienced that, though he did not have the book as we do. He walked in obedience to the voice of God, and that is why he is called the father of faith.
Faith comes when we hear God’s word. How then can you expect your faith to be fortified if you are not reading the word of God? Many times we are looking for the supernatural. We want God to speak to us mysteries and the profound things of God.
First start with what he has made available to you, read your bible, pray every day if you want to grow your faith.
