Adam and Eve were in the perfect environment, one that was yet to be affected by sin. But even in this environment, God gave them the power to choose. With free-will comes the power to choose, and with every choice, there are consequences. It is said that we have the power to choose, but we do not have the power to alter the consequences of our choices.

God clearly spelled out the consequences of the wrong choice to Adam, and yet, he still went with the wrong choice. Who then do we blame in this scenario? Do we blame God, or do we blame Adam? Many people today would rather blame God than accept the consequences of their choices. If not God, we will blame our parents, the environment, the school, or something else. It is always someone else’s fault.

God created us to be free, and the way to exercise that freedom is to have the power of choice. To be in bondage is to be in a place where you do not have the power to choose. But even with that in mind, freedom and choices come with responsibility. Our choices have consequences, and it is these consequences that determine the quality of life we live.

Though we are free in Christ, our choices can take us back into a place of bondage, just like it was for Adam.

Because we live in a fallen world, God tells us to trust him. He asks us to trust in Him with all our hearts and lean not in our own understanding. We are to acknowledge Him in all our ways, and He will direct our path. He has an advantage because He knows the beginning from the end, and He changes not, and that is why we can trust him. God urges us that in all our getting we should strive to get wisdom because it is the principal thing. Wisdom will help us make the right choices, ensuring we have the quality of life he designed for us to have. To fear Him is the starting point for wisdom.

We live in a world today where we are spoilt for choice because we have so many options, unlike years before. One of the things that happens when one is spoilt for choice is that we become indecisive, and what happens is we move with the masses. If many people like it, then it must be a good choice.

Proverbs tells us that there is a way that seems right to a man, but the end is death. Just because the majority are headed in one direction does not mean it’s the right way to go. Just because it’s popular does not make it right.

He knows what’s best for you, trust Him.
