The End of Political Campaigns

The long awaited August polls is just hours away. The end of the 6 months of political campaigns officially launched in May 29th led to a grand showcase between the two “main horses” in the presidential race in different stadiums.

“We want a nation that will not leave anyone behind,” DP William Ruto in Nyayo stadium. He made his final pitch calling upon his supporters and all Kenyans to turn up and vote for “change”. He called upon peace in the process stating that he will have tea with his biggest rival Hon. Raila Odinga. On his end, the former prime minister, “sisi tunasimama na wa Kenya Imara tumalize ufisadi katika taifa letu,” speaking at his final rally in Kasarani.

On the other spectrum, Reuben Kigame urged his supporters to include his name in the ballot. “I want to call upon my supporters across the country to vote for me by adding my name on the ballot as the fifth candidate on the presidential ballot paper and tick it as it is required by the law.”

As much as the official campaign period is over; billboards and posters are still plastered in every corner of the city. That aside, it is time for you and I to tally the ethos, vision, capacity and integrity of the leaders. As a wise writer, once said “vote on principle.”

The 22 million voters have the final power to shape the future of the 56 million plus Kenyans. Vote wisely and go home. Peace starts with you! There is life after 9th August, as the Christian community lets pray for our nation.
