2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NKJV
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
That which is unseen is eternal, while that which is seen is temporal. Sadly, may people focus and invest only on what is seen. Jesus came with a philosophy that seems strange to many and some believers as well struggle with some of what Jesus said.
For example to live you must die, or it is more blessed to give than to receive. Think about what is invisible being eternal and the seen being temporal.
The bible says that faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
The most important thing for you and I as believers is to have a thriving relationship with God. The apostles of old were not concerned with material things, instead their focus was to please God and to fulfill his will for their lives.
The bible reminds us that even the afflictions we go through because of focusing on our relationship with God do not compare with the eternal glory that we will receive if we remain faithful. Besides the afflictions are temporary.
God is calling us to live a life that is pleasing before him and he has given us the Holy Spirit to help us and enable us to live that life. The enemy on the other hand will always try to distract us with fulfilling the desires of the flesh through the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. We should always count the cost and like Joseph have the strength to say, ” How can I do such a thing and sin against my God”
Choose the eternal over the temporary.
