Devotion: Can God use you in your current condition?

Acts 9:1-4 (NIV)

1 Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

Have you disqualified yourself that God cannot use you because of what you are going through presently? Well, this devotion is for you. Saul is a man on a mission, but his mission is not in God’s purpose, he is out to persecute and kill the church. He is full of hate and rage, and yet, God reaches out to him, and he becomes a changed man right there on the road to Damascus.

Where are you today? God can reach out to you right in the midst of your current agenda and situation and change your life. Jamaican gospel artist Chevelle Franklin had a similar experience when she was right in the middle of a concert. Formerly known as the dance hall queen, her life was turned around on stage in the middle of a concert, and she suddenly declared a change in lifestyle direction and career to a shocked crowd. God reached out to her and turned her life around.

What about the 4 lepers in 2 Kings 7? Their present condition was one of rejection. No one wanted them, they were outcasts, and they could not go into the city neither could they be welcomed into the enemy’s camp but guess what? God used them to deliver and set free a whole city.

Can God use you in your current condition? Oh, yes, you bet He can. The bible says that what is impossible with man is possible with God. Others may rule you out, and you may also disqualify yourself because when you look at your present condition, then you do not qualify but not with God. Remember, He has a good plan for your life.

Your present circumstances did not catch the Lord by surprise! He knows everything there is to know about you, He knows where you are, and, He still can use your life if it is yielded to him for His glory.

Reflections:

  • What about your life currently would you be embarrassed if people knew about it?
  • What are your thoughts about God using insignificant people or people with issues in their lives?
  • What are you focused on, the God who has called you or the present circumstances in your life?
