We all stray from the path, but how we respond after recognizing that we have sinned determines how we grow in our relationship with God. For some of us, we revert to the tactics of Adam and Eve in the garden, and we try to cover our sins in our ability. In essence, we try to cover our nakedness with fig leaves.

Confessing our sins means that we uncover the wrongs we have done, and we call them what they are according to the word of God. Every so often the enemy will lie to us that some sins are so huge that God cannot forgive us and so instead of running towards God to find forgiveness and cleansing, we allow guilt and condemnation to cause us to run away from Him.

Our responsibility is to confess and not cover our sins and when we do that then God who is described as faithful will not only forgive us of our sin, but he will take it a step further to cleanse us of all unrighteousness. Now that’s a great reassurance!

When it comes to God forgiving us of our sins, he does not forgive as man does.

When God forgives our lawless deeds, he remembers them no more! What a joy and reassurance that should make us not to sin because we want to take advantage of God’s forgiveness and goodness, but rather it should make us want to live a righteous life to please him who loves us in this manner!

Confessing our sins is one step, but the book of proverbs tells us that we have to take it a notch higher and to forsake the sin that we have confessed, then we will have mercy!

It is through the complete work of Christ on the cross that we find forgiveness of our sins according to the riches of his grace. When we come to him in confession and brokenness over the sin in our life, then he looks at us and says, “Neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more.”
