Leviticus 23:24-25 NKJV
“Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.’ ”
This feast happened on the first day of the 10th month. The children of Israel were commanded to rest from their work and present offerings to the Lord. They were required to mark this feast by blowing trumpets. This feast is also known as Rosh Hashana Which means head of the year. This feast marked a 10-day consecration period and repentance to God. It is one of the three feasts that occur in the fall of the year.
In the New Testament, it is important to note that at the second coming of Jesus there will be the sound of a trumpet.
1 Corinthians 15:51–52 (ESV)
51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.
Trumpets are also mentioned in the judgements in revelation.
When you think about it, trumpets sound the alarm and call people to attention. This feast is a call to get our focus off our work and every day business and instead focus on God. It is a reminder that everything should be about God. A call to repentance and a reflection of our relationship with God through what Christ did for us.
