Devotion: Jesus in the Feasts of Israel

Leviticus 23:1-2 NKJV

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘The feasts of the Lord, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.

When God gave the children of Israel instructions on the 7 feasts that they were to observe annually, they had no idea the prophetic picture God was painting. God’s agenda has always been reconciliation with man and this happened through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. A these feasts pointed to the coming messiah even though the children of Israel had no idea.

In the feast of Pentecost, Jesus is that passover lamb that shed his blood and because we have been marked by that blood, the angel of death has passes over us, and we are set free.

In the feast of unleavened bread, Jesus is that bread of life because he lived a sinless life thus becoming the perfect and acceptable sacrifice for our sin.

With the feast of first fruits, Jesus is the first fruit from the grave because after 3 days he rose from the grave defeating death hell and the grave once and for all.

At the feast of Pentecost or feast of weeks we see the fulfilment of Christ promise when the Holy Spirit is sent and through His power and enablement the work of the great harvest begins with the salvation of 3000 people.

At the feast of trumpets we see the warning to be ready because of the foretelling of Christ’s second coming in the heavens and the rapture of the church.

When we look at the day of Atonement we see Christ as the scape goat that took away our sins. We also see a picture of the second coming of Jesus, when he will return to earth, and it will be the day of Atonement for humanity.

Lastly, at the feast of tabernacles we see Emanuel Jesus dwelling with us as we reign with him.

The children of Israel in the wilderness might have had no idea what all these feasts represented, but we have no excuse because the Holy Spirit has led us into all truth. We have seen Passover, Unleavened Bread and Pentecost fulfilled. The question is, will we be ready for Trumpets, Atonement, and Tabernacles? Or will we continue to live ignorantly like those who don’t believe?
