Matthew 25:21
His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.’
As I thought about todays scripture I was reminded of the prize giving day back in primary school. This was a bitter sweet day, sweet for those who were awarded for their hard work and bitter for those who had not put in the work so all they could do was look at their friends being awarded.
In the parable of the talents, when the master came back, he called his servants so as to settle accounts with each of them. The first two had used their ability to multiply what had been left under their care and the master was pleased with them. Because of their faithfulness and diligence, their master rewarded them by making them ruler over many things. Each was rewarded according to what they had done.
The Bible reminds believers that there will be a prize giving day and it will be bitter sweet as well. What do I mean?
1 Corinthians 3:12-15
12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
The most rewarding thing on that day would be to hear the Lord say to you;
‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
May we never lose perspective of that great day.
