Proverbs 4:7-9 NKJV
Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you embrace her. She will place on your head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory she will deliver to you.”
We live in a world where people are chasing after many things especially material things but not wisdom. Our key verse tells us that wisdom is the principal thing, it is the main thing, it is the central thing. Wisdom is of more value than silver and gold and when you get wisdom it will bring you honor and a crown of glory.
Knowledge is good, but knowledge alone will puff you up. Knowledge has to be accompanied by understanding and conviction which leads to action and that action is what we term as wisdom.
This week we have been learning wisdom from 4 tiny creatures in proverbs 30. The ant, the rock badger, the locust, and the spider. Think about this, none of those tiny creatures can speak, but we can gain wisdom from them by observing what they DO.
To have knowledge of something and not do it is to be worse of that he who does not know. Just like faith without works is dead, wisdom is demonstrated not so much in what you know, but rather in the application of what you know.
We should not strive at getting knowledge and then settle there. Rather, with knowledge we should seek understanding and conviction so that we can implement that which we know.
A teacher of the word of God once asked this question
“ Are you peddling in untested truths”
Do you teach things you yourself are not implementing?
To be wise and to grow in wisdom is to do what you have knowledge of because why should God give you more if you are doing nothing with what you already have?
