When Competition meets Camaraderie

Eliud Kipchoge breaks his own records

Living up to his title Greatest of All Time (G.O.A.T), Eliud Kipchoge broke his own Berlin Marathon by slashing 30 seconds from the previous record. The 37-year-old dashed through the 26.2 miles in a world record 2:01:09.

Aside from the brilliant showcase of will power, strength and dedication; brotherhood was in display. Claus-Henning Schulke and Eliud Kipchoge’s cooperation in the race might have been the extra push that made Eliud win. The 56 year old is part of 30 person crew mandated in ensuring that elite athletes get their fluids during the race.

Claus-Henning Schulke was a champion to many watching the Berlin Marathon. He would emphatically fist pump to successfully pass off bottles to Kipchoge in every water point.

The two have worked together in past races which eventually led them to develop a friendship. In the just concluded race, the two met earlier to come up with a strategic plan on how they will execute their respective roles. In the end, Schulke had Kipchoge’s nametag on his arm which helped the star athlete easily identify him in the crowd.
