John 17:17-19 NKJV
[17] Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. [18] As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. [19] And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
Sanctification is to be set apart for God, meaning we now are his and also being set apart for his use. When we get born again, we are justified which means we are no longer considered guilty because we have put our faith in Christ and the debt he paid for us through his death and resurrection.
We are also sanctified and this though instant, is also a process we go through as we continue living on this earth.
God’s word is truth, and it is what God uses to set us apart from the world. Jesus said that we shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free. The word of God shows us how we ought to think, speak, and live as members of God’s family now that we have been set apart. We don’t do to belong, but now that we belong, it shows us how those who belong must live their life.
Remember, Jesus promised us the Holy Spirit, who would lead us into all truth. The Holy Spirit reminds us what the word of God says, He convicts us when we get off the path, and he brings us back if we humble ourselves to allow him to lead us. He also empowers us, enabling us to live as God expects us to in accordance with the new nature we have been given. It is fellowship with the Holy Spirit that brings us the understanding and revelation of God’s word while also enabling us to apply it in our lives.
We have also been given the avenue of prayer through which we can talk directly to God and also hear what he says.
As we remain faithful to abide in Christ and his word abiding in us then we will bear fruit that pertains to the righteousness that has been imputed to us through him.
Reflections.
How has the word of God impacted your life?
How faithful are you in prayer, and what impact has that had on your walk of faith?
How often do you allow the Holy Spirit to guide you?
