We all need a reality check! Entitlement is us and we are it. Before you ask me “Do we have a problem?” Give me a chance, let us breathe in. According to the Oxford dictionary, entitlement is the fact of having a right to something. While to be “entitled” is believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.
Entitlement can be equated to teenage tantrums. The sad reality, some of us do not grow out of the silly disastrous habit. We end up believing that the world is unfair to us or why we have to suffer like this. Yet the lives they are living is the envy of most of us, we live in a bubble believing we deserve more and that we are not by the people around us.
Don’t get me wrong, at times this is the true reality but most often than not we are deluded living in the land of “I’s”. When “I” am not superior I am wronged. When “I” don’t get my way I am being victimised. When I don’t get favours or shortcuts I am not valued. There are situations when we need to push through and reaffirm our values, stance, principles, worth. But, if we do it every 2 seconds validated or not it becomes noise. Loud, and irrelevant!
All this is from a point of perspective. We can all be a villain or a hero it all depends on the perspective we chose to look at things. A wise man once said, “it is difficult for the multitudes to be saved. As the first step of salvation is admitting we are sinners and that realisation is one that even Christians struggle.” But that’s a different discussion all together, my question to you is – what’s your perspective: entitled or not?
