2 Kings 4:2
2 So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”
The widow did not think much of what she had. When Elisha asks her what she has in her house, her initial response is nothing, then she mentions the oil. In her eyes, the oil was not worth much. This reminds me of the 5 loaves and two fish. When Jesus asked the disciples what they had, they said they only have 5 loaves and 2 fish, but what good are they among such a massive crowd?
One of the most profound questions that God asked anyone in the Bible is what he asked Moses at the burning bush. What do you have in your hand? To Moses, it was just a simple shepherds staff, but in the hands of God it became an instrument to demonstrate his power.
I believe God would ask the same of us today, just as the prophet asked the widow. What do you have and are you willing to release it to God and see him do wonders with it? The problem is that we despise the little we have because we are continually looking for the spectacular. God will use what we have if we are willing to release it to him.
Peter was willing to allow Jesus to use his boat to preach, after which he caught so much fish it was unbelievable. When you look throughout the bible, you will see God almighty use seemingly small and insignificant things to accomplish great and mighty things.
The thing that seems small and insignificant in your life may be the very thing that God will use to bring that desired miracle your way, do not despise it.
