Exodus 28:36-37 NKJV

“You shall also make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet: HOLINESS TO THE LORD. And you shall put it on a blue cord, that it may be on the turban; it shall be on the front of the turban.

The priest had to wear a turban or Mitre on his head. It was made of fine white linen. On the front of the turban was a golden plate with the words Holiness unto the Lord engraved on it. It was attached onto the turban by a blue ribbon which run on top of the turban to the back.

The white linen speaks of Christ’s humility and holiness. Though he was a man like us, he did not sin. He lived a holy, pure life. Remember, he said that he came to fulfil the law, which he did by living under the law and sinning not. He also being God, humbled himself to die on the cross, a shameful death on the cross.

The gold plate speaks of heaven and his heavenly crown of divine glory. The words Holiness unto the Lord speak of Christ’s holiness because no one is holy except for Christ, and the righteousness we have is through him. This was also a reminder to the priest that he should live a holy life as the man standing between God and man. He could not just live the way he wanted and then step into God’s presence to represent the people. The same applies to us today because we are kings and priests and as priests we have the privilege of standing in God’s holy presence.
