The Power of Mindsets: Scarcity Mindset

2 Corinthians 9:8
8 And God is able to make all grace [every favor and earthly blessing] come in abundance to you, so that you may always [under all circumstances, regardless of the need] have complete sufficiency in everything [being completely self-sufficient in Him], and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity.
Several times I have found myself in this scenario. I am part of a workshop or a conference and an announcement is made to let participants know that a special lunch has been prepared. Soon enough, the session before lunch comes to an end and suddenly the crowd makes a mad rush for the dining hall. Everybody wants to be first, people are pushing and shoving until someone from the kitchen has to come out and assure everyone that there is more than enough food for everyone and even seconds if needed.
Scarcity mentality, thinking there is not enough for everyone, so you rush to take what you can while you still can.
When you have the revelation that God is your source, then you can never have a scarcity mentality because you know that God has more than enough and His resources can never run out. Like the little boy, you will willingly give out your 2 fish and 5 loaves to Jesus when he asks, because, after all, everything belongs to him. Like the widow, you will not hesitate to make your last meal and give it to the man of God at God’s direction because you know God has got you covered.
People with a scarcity mentality are people with no faith. They do not believe that God can supply, and thus they hold on tightly to what they have not willing to share or let go. This kind of life is a selfish life, one that only thinks of self. A scarcity mindset wants to micromanage they always want to be in charge, and they don’t open up opportunities for others.
When we believe that everything belongs to God, then we do not struggle to give. In fact, we don’t give based on what we have but rather based on what God has directed. I believe that a scarcity mindset is what leads to the high levels of corruption we have in our nation. We have people in places of authority ho will grab as much as they can because deep in their hearts they do not believe that there is enough for everybody to prosper.
Do you believe that God is able to take care of your needs? If you do, then you will always have an open hand and not a clenched fist. In fact, you will always be on the lookout to be a blessing because you believe that there is enough to go around for everybody.
There is no need to hoard or to be selfish, there is enough to go around and meet everyone’s need, the God we serve is a God of more than enough.
Reflections
What is the one thing you would struggle to give away and why?
Is giving a burden or a joy to you, why?
Do you always want to be first in line? Why?
