The Invisible Active God: Divine Revelation

Esther 2:21-23
21 In those days, while Mordecai sat within the king’s gate, two of the king’s eunuchs, [m]Bigthan and Teresh, doorkeepers, became furious and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. 22 So the matter became known to Mordecai, who told Queen Esther, and Esther informed the king in Mordecai’s name. 23 And when an inquiry was made into the matter, it was confirmed, and both were hanged on a gallows; and it was written in the book of the chronicles in the presence of the king.
Have you ever been at the right place at the right time and something major happened in your life? This was the case for Mordecai. It just so happened that he was sitting within the kings gates and he overheard two Eunuchs who were door keepers plotting on how they will lay hands on the king and do him harm. I don’t believe in coincidences, what I see here is God’s providence for Mordecai to know this information because it would come in handy much later and it was a pivotal point in God’s plan.
Remember, Mordecai was in Shushan not because of his own choosing but because his people had been exiled here as captives. He might have as well not done anything with the information that he had just received and allowed the King to be killed, maybe another king would show his people mercy. But doing that would also put Esther in harms way and so he does the right thing and informs Esther about the assassination plan and Esther tells the king in Mordecai’s name.
Upon investigation, this information is verified and the two Eunuchs are hanged while Mordecai ends up in the book of the Chronicles. This may seem like such a small detail but this one thing we must never forget, all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to his purpose. Sometimes we do the right thing and it seems like no one takes notice and we may be tempted to think, what’s the use? God notices and he will reward you.
So way before Hamman comes into the picture with his plan to strike out the Jewish people, God has already set up two people who will be pivotal in their salvation. First we have a Jewish woman as queen meaning she has the kings ear and second we have Mordecai who has obtained favor with the king because he exposed a plot to bring harm to the king.
We always pray and ask God to go before us and make every crooked path straight. This is one good example of that. Both Queen Esther and Harman had no idea what was before them but God had already set them up in positions as a solution to the plan of attack from the enemy. In the same manner, rest assured that God has already gone before you even though you may not see it. Trust him.
Reflections
When have you ever been at the right place at the right time? What happened?
How would you have responded with this information if you were Mordecai?
What lesson do you learn from this part of the story?
