The Deadly Sins: Evil Feet

Proverbs 6:16-19 (ESV)

There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

O be careful little feet where you go
O be careful little feet where you go
For the Father up above
Is looking down in love
So, be careful little feet where you go
These lines from an old rhyme song remind us of the danger of allowing our feet to wander. Additionally, the part of our passage that we are focussed on today as we continue looking at the deadly sins is verse 18, “Feet that make haste to run to evil.” This speaks of one who is given to evil. That when presented with a choice of good and evil, they quickly choose to go the way of evil. It is a complete contrast of what we see commended elsewhere: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (Romans 10:15 citing Isaiah 52:7). It seems like we have a choice to make – either to bear beautiful feet or to have ugly evil feet. But lest we imagine that we can never get to that place where we are totally given to evil, let us heed to the warning of Casting Crowns:
And it’s a slow fade
When you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade
When black and white have turned to grey
And thoughts invade, choices made
A price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
Daddies never crumble in a day
Families never crumble in a day
Reflections
1. What kind of feet would you say you have?
2. What areas of your life do you need to take care of lest everything comes crumbling down because of evil?
