Setting The Pace: Younger Women

Titus 2:3-4
3 Older women similarly are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor addicted to much wine, teaching what is right and good, 4 so that they may encourage the young women to tenderly love their husbands and their children, 5 to be sensible, pure, makers of a home [where God is honored], good-natured, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
The older women have a responsibility and a calling to teach and train the younger women. The older women who have experience and have walked the talk have to encourage the younger women to love their husbands and their children. This is a message that is widely needed today because marriages in the church are having a shorter life span as divorce and separation are becoming normal. The older women are to teach the younger women how to tenderly love their husbands and children, meaning it’s not something that would come naturally thus it needs to be taught.
Young women are to be sensible meaning they have to conduct themselves with wisdom and prudence according to the word of God. The younger women have to be pure, walking in purity especially sexual purity which is something that is looked down upon today, and many young people believe that you have to take a “test drive” before you make an investment. This is the thinking of the world and the older women have to teach the younger women a better way, the way of purity, the way of the kingdom of God.
It is said that women nature and thus when you give them a house they will give you a home. The older women must take the time to teach the younger women what goes into making a home where God is honored. It takes time, patience and a great investment to build this kind of home and sadly many are giving up too quickly.
The older women must teach the younger women how to be subject to their own husbands. Many today don’t like the topic of submission and that’s largely because it is one topic that has been taught wrongly. The older women who have been under sound doctrine should teach the younger women how to build strong marriages and strong homes.
In doing this and living this out then the word of God will not be dishonored.
Reflections
Do you have someone who is mentoring you and are you mentoring someone?
Why do you think a good number of marriages are failing in churches today?
What do you think is the role of the young women in church today and are they fulfilling it?
