Servanthood: Hindrances To Serving

Matthew 6:24 New King James Version
24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and [a]mammon.
Many of us if asked would say that we truly want to serve God with all our hearts but it takes more than saying. If we will become true servants of God then there are certain character traits that we must have. Jesus warns us that we cannot serve two masters for we will hate one and love the other.
Loving the world and the things of the world is a huge hindrance in serving the Lord. The bible reminds us that he who loves the world cannot claim to love God. We cannot walk in disobedience to Gods word and still expect to be effective and fruitful servants of God.
Our attitude can also be a hindrance in serving God and his people. When we walk in pride then we will look down on others and not have a heart to serve them. Selfishness and ungratefulness will also cause us not to serve God or others.
Some believers have a wrong understanding of who they are. Have you defined yourself based on what the world tells you? Have you allowed the world to give you identity? This will become a hindrance to serve because the world will tell you that you do not qualify or that you are not good enough.
We can also render our service fruitless when we do it for the wrong reasons. We live in a generation today where people do things for likes and follows on social media. We perform acts of service not necessarily because we love to but rather the motive is to create content for our social media platforms as we look for likes and follows and payment for content that trends.
Do not put a limit to your service but rather allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you on who you should serve and how you should serve them.
Love God, Love people and serve God, serve people.
Reflections
What excuse have you been giving as the reason why you cannot serve others?
Will you keep giving the same excuse or are you willing to do something about it?
What will you do and when will you do it?
