Qualities of A Strong Church: Pure As A Bride

Revelation‬ ‭19:7‭-‬8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
[7] Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” [8] And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
The church is the bride of Christ. We have been betrothed to him, as Paul says in 2 Cor 11:1-2. For this cause, the church should walk in purity as we await that day of the marriage supper of the lamb.
Remember when Mary was betrothed to Joseph, and she was found to be with child, Joseph sought to divorce her quietly because he believed that she had not kept herself pure. It was only after the intervention of God through an angelic visit that Joseph went on to take Mary as his wife.
Jesus paid the price for us by his death on the cross so that he may sanctify and cleanse us to present us to himself as a glorious church without spot or wrinkle.
As we await that glorious day of the marriage supper of the lamb, we have the responsibility to keep ourselves pure and walk in purity. This we do by walking according to the spirit and allowing ourselves to be led by the Spirit. We must turn away from the works of the flesh because they defile us, and they will lead to death. This we must do individually and also together as the body of Christ.
Our verse says that the bride has made herself ready, showing that personal responsibility is required. Christ has done his part and ensured that we have been reconciled to God. Knowing what we go through because he has been touched by the feelings of our infirmity, he has provided the Holy Spirit to help us and strengthen us. He has also provided a way for us in case we soil ourselves because he says that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us all our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
As a bride looks forward with excitement to her wedding day and keeps herself pure and in shape that she may fit into her dream dress and look perfect for her groom, may we have the same attitude as we look forward to the marriage supper of the lamp. Amen.
Reflections.
What’s the best wedding ceremony you have ever attended? What stood out for you?
How are you preparing yourself for the marriage supper of the Lamb?
In what areas of your life are you struggling to walk in purity? What must you do, you change this?
