Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba says Russia has launched a “full-scale invasion of Ukraine.” President Vladimir Putin earlier said Russia was to conduct a “military operation” into the separatist-held regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine. Putin has also recognized the independence of the two regions, even though they are part of Ukraine under international law.

Following this latest move against Ukraine, the Western powers have placed a range of economic and financial sanctions on Russia.
