“Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God,” Romans 13.1
Speaking during Sunday service, All Saints Cathedral Provost, Rev. Sammy Wainaina called on Kenyans to submit to the governing authorities and leadership as the Bible demands of us.
The Provost remarked on how Social media has been used as a tool of social power which to some degree has been abused going by the political remarks, comments, and utterances some Kenyans make on the platforms.
“You can differ with them (referring to our political leaders). You may not like them. But we cannot afford not to respect our leaders,” the Provost stated.
He went on to call upon Kenyans to respect and honor Azimio Presidential candidate Hon Raila Odinga. “When someone has been wounded and they are down. You don’t hurt them more, kindly don’t hurt Hon. Raila, and the outgoing president Uhuru. They are our leaders. He(Uhuru)has served for the last 10 years. He may not have been perfect like anyone of us but he doesn’t deserve ridicule or heckling. That one if we did we would have lost as a nation,” said Provost Wainaina.
The minister urged Kenyans to respect all leaders even those who lost. He called upon Kenyans to be more sympathetic and loving to all who have been given the mandate to lead. A humble request was also made to the political winners that they may rejoice and serve with humility.
“Our prayer for the incoming President is that he will be the president of all Kenyans. Our work as a church is to continuously pray for him but to also hold him accountable. The church is independent and we shall remain so,” the Provost remarked.
In regards to the scheduled inauguration of the new president–elect William Ruto happening on Tuesday, September 13. The Provost called on those planning to attend to be graceful.
“Any small heckling on our outgoing president will be wrong and we would have lost the software of our nation. Please pray for this nation that the transition will be under God’s blessing,” Provost Wainaina said.
