Matthew 11:2-3 NKJV – And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?”

John the Baptist was the forerunner of Christ. He was a bold prophet who called people to repentance, and he was not afraid to point out evil. Intact, he was thrown into prison because he spoke against Herod, who had taken his brother’s wife and married her. Doing thee right thing landed John in prison.

It is in this prison that John begins to doubt what he has believed about Christ. Remember, he was the one who had declared “Behold, the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” But now, while in prison, he sends his disciples to ask Jesus if he is the coming one or should they wait for another.

Remember, Jesus and John the Baptist were related. I believe John expected Jesus to do something about his situation a and when it was not forthcoming, discouragement, doubt, and disillusionment kicked in.

We have all been there, caught between a rock and a hard place, and we expect God to move in a certain way and he doesn’t. We then begin to doubt if he loves us and if he is truly God. We question whether Jesus is the only way to the father, and what if we are wrong about this issue and other religions are right?

I love what John the Baptist did, when he was in doubt, he sent word to Jesus. We should do the same, when in doubt and when we feel our Faith is weak, we should talk to Jesus and no one else. Jesus responds by telling John’s disciples to GI back and tell him what they see. The word from Jesus must have reassured John that Jesus was the Christ even though John’s situation did not get better, rather they got worse because John was eventually beheaded.

It is important to note what Jesus says about John after his disciples leave. He was not a man shaken by the wind, no, he was stable and grounded. He was a prophet, the greatest of those born by women.

Situations may be tough, and you will find yourself in trouble for doing the right thing, and heaven may seem silent. Always remember Jesus is who he says he is. May we have thee resolve like the three Hebrew boys whose faith did not weaver whether God saved them from the fire or not.
