Mindsets: Earthly vs Eternal Mindset

Colossians 3:1-2 NKJV
3 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
If someone was to ask you what the most important things in life are, what are some of the things you would mention?
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. 14 For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.
Solomon the king of Israel had it all when you talk about the things people chase after in this world. He was the wisest man, he was a king, he was wealthy and he had more than 1000 women. Having experienced all this, he comes to one conclusion, to fear God and keep his commandments is the most important thing.
Someone with an earthly perspective only, is one who is concerned about the here and now. This physical realm and how they can live their best life now is all they think about. This is the YOLO generation, you only live once so enjoy life and do all you can do now because one day you will die. The bible says that to love the world is to be an enemy of God. Jesus urged us to store up for ourselves treasures in heaven where they cannot be destroyed.
An eternal mindset is one that understands first that eternal life is not something we are waiting for;
1 John 5:11 NKJV
11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
This is the understanding that what is seen is temporal and what is unseen is eternal and thus the focus is more on the unseen spiritual things as opposed to the material things that many are chasing after today.
2 Corinthians 4:18 NKJV
18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
An eternal mindset is one that understands the full picture of life here on earth and the afterlife and thus you do not get discouraged by the temporary suffering that we have to go through here on earth.
Romans 8:18 NKJV
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
An eternal mindset views death from a different perspective because we have the understanding that it is not a finality but rather a passage.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 NKJV
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
An eternal mindset understands the importance of evangelism and they engage in it fully because they know what is at stake for those who do not know Christ if they die in that state.
Romans 6:23 NKJV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the [a]gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Reflections;
Where are you storing up your treasures, on earth or in heaven?
What is your attitude when seasons of trouble and tribulations come your way?
What is your attitude towards evangelism and witnessing to others? How often do you engage in it?
